According to The Independent, a publication of Hearbuy, “It has been reported that a university in South Africa has carried out research on the ubiquitous African horn to discover an alarming finding that they can produce a deafening 131 db from a single blow.
This would be the equivalent of sitting in a stadium full of jackhammers all digging on concrete at the same time.
The research showed that levels of this magnitude and intensity are both unsafe and can put people at risk of noise induced hearing loss.
Test students were asked to go to the games and were monitored during the early rounds of the World Cup, many of which reported some form of hearing loss. The hearing loss of which may be temporary in some and permanent in others.”
Care must be taken when using instruments that can produce these kinds of sound levels. Most people are not aware of the damage they are doing to their hearing from too much noise exposure.
